Welcome

My name is Dave Tyler and this is UnopenedMale.

Thank you taking the time to join me on this journey of becoming the happiest and healthiest version of ourselves.

Alone we may struggle with our mental health, but together we are strong.

My Story

For more than half my life I have been dealing with the mental battles that come with depression and anxiety. I haven't been immune to suicidal thoughts and even attempted to take my own life when the lows became too low.

Like many of you reading this, I thought I was alone. I naively assumed I was the only person in the world going through what I was going through and even more naively thought that I could get through this by myself. I was wrong.

A few years ago, my eyes were opened to the world of mental health and quickly realised that not only was I not alone, but in fact more people than I could possibly have imagined were experiencing similar things.

From that moment on, I vowed to become a voice for change. I wanted to dedicate myself to not suffering in silence, to not letting the stigma around mental health take more lives and to not be a closed book anymore.

That is when UnopenedMale was born. The name is a reminder that I, like you, were never closed, we just hadn't opened up yet. Until now.

My Mission

Throughout my life I have made countless bad decisions when it comes to my mental well-being. UnopenedMale is my raw and unfiltered journal through those experiences with the hope being that you might not fall into the same pitfalls I did. Live through my highs and lows, my ups and downs and learn from my mistakes.

In the last few years, I have dedicated myself to become a sponge to all things mental health. I've done my best to absorb as much knowledge as I can and I'll share that all with you.

My goal is to leave each and every one of you in a better place than you were before you started reading. In turn, I hope that you do the same with those around you and do your part to shed the outdated stigma.

We will laugh together. We will cry together. But most importantly, we will heal together.

My Achievements

I've been fortunate enough to have been able to share my story on various podcasts and have had the honour of helping lead panels during International Men's Day and Mental Health Awareness week.

Beyond that I am proud to be a qualified Mental Health: Workplace FirstAider through St Johns Ambulance and will continue to build on this qualification and my expertise in this space.
